To get your CDL, you must:
Be at least 21 years old to drive in different states or 18 years old to drive within your state.
Hold a valid driver’s license.
Pass the physical exam and drug test at the Department of Transportation (DOT).
Once you meet those prerequisites, CDL Columbia will prepare you to pass three written exams (General knowledge; Combination; Air brakes) and three practical exams (Pre-trip Inspection; Skills; Road test).
The written exam takes place at the Secretary of State and checks your theoretical knowledge about regulations, types of vehicles, hazardous materials. Upon passing the written exams, candidates can proceed to the practical test. This is your final step before acquiring your CDL and it takes place at Columbia’s approved training lot.
Upon passing your practical exam, you will receive your CDL to become a licensed commercial truck driver.
